Sunday Summary 05-Feb-2023
Spent the later half of the week in the alpine. Had visions of lots of XC skiing. It didn’t turn out that way. We had near constant snow fall which makes skate skiing not so much fun. It also makes downhill skiing super fun. So the training log doesn’t really show it but I did have a solid week of general conditioning.
I spent most all of Friday and Saturday on the downhill skis. Not so much an aerobic block but on my feet and engaging a different group of muscles than I normally might. And having a blast in all the fresh snow!
Sunday afternoon provided a window for a solid skate ski. Following a full day downhill skiing I was able to get 15K of skating done. It had been warm through the early afternoon but by the time I was out the temperature dropped and the snow hardend up. It ended up being pretty quick though quite rutted - the warmer afternoon left the trail cut up only to freeze. So, while I apprecaiated the cold snow for speed I found it requried complete focus. When I wasn’t focused on skiing I quickly caught ruts and nearly went down. After dinner I headed out for a bit of night skiing which was also a lot of fun - it was super quiet on a Sunday night. All told I spent 7 hours out playing in winter.
