My training through the first three months of the year has been mixed. Aspects I am pleased with are that I am lifting again and have generally sorted out a basic week through this period of the year. Where I have been disappointed with myself has been in my overall consistency. That might suggest my basic week is too much - if I can’t repeat it week in and week out does it qualify?

Through the late fall and into January I was rolling my week. Getting in all my sessions across all facets. February really was a bit lots. Things at the office ramped up an ate into my available time, commuting is such a time suck. Additionally, mother nature threw some curve balls and made planned XC skiing more of a challenge.

That said, in that time I was more likely simply to pull the pin rather than adapt in real time. I notice that I have been pretty good about getting to the gym and the pool in this time. Running and cycling were skipped over more often than not.

I had set out to include more seasonal aspects in my program this winter. This is a point of learning for next year: in the depth of winter focusing on lifting and swimming works for me. Thinking about the cycling I wonder if a winter program more focused on short harder efforts might work to keep me on the bike.

Coming out of spring break and into the next quarter of the year I am excited to get back out outside be it on the bike or running.
